Don’t miss the boat!

PRACTICAL INFORMATION Since the summer of 2010, Tanger Med port has welcomed a large increase in travellers heading to Europe. But for the more nostalgic in town, ferries still depart from the Tanger Ville port.

Tangier has welcomed a large increase in passengers coming from or going to Europe during the summer months. Since 2010, the port at Tanger Med has welcomed a large number of these travellers. It’s very difficult to have the precise departure and arrival times, as the times are rarely respected. Arriving at the port of either Tanger Med or Tanger City, the first contact with travellers is the kiosks of the respective companies. Promotions, coupons, prices, travel times, they are all arguments used for selling tickets.

But, as it often happens, we take a look at the schedule, boats and departure times and find that they don’t correspond to the tickets we’ve been sold just a few minutes earlier. Be cautious and try to clarify as much as possible the details of your trip.

Take into consideration time for customs and security as this can take some time before the boat arrives, especially during the busy periods.

For the more nostalgic travellers, two companies (FRS and Comarit) still operate out of Tanger City port and serve Tarifa in 40 minutes. FRS leaves Tanger ville every two hours starting at 8 a.m. until 10 p.m. whereas Comarit leaves four times per day at 7 a.m., 11 a.m., 3 p.m. and 7 p.m.

Tanger Med offers all the companies heading to Algeciras: Acciona/EuroFerrys, Balearia, Comanav/Comarit, FRS and IMTC.

Some things to keep in mind when buying your ticket:
  • Verify the time and take into account the time needed to pass through security
  • Verify the length of travel (40 minutes to 2.5 hours depending on the boat
  • Compare prices and available promotions
  • Verify the return information
  • Keep in mind water, long wait times and that it’s very hot at the port
These schedules are given an indicative title, and are subject to change without notice (according to the companies). You can consult the Tanger Med Web site for more information or contact the companies directly.
